"WILL I HAVE TO DIG?"
...seems to be the most frequently asked question. The answer would be, you will find specimens at most sites without digging, but may enjoy digging to find better, less weathered specimens. You may want to use a shovel to move dirt to a screen box at some sites.
To Dig or not to Dig...is really dependent on what you want to find. The more dirt you move, the more goodies you will find.
Heavy digging is not required to find specimens at our sites.
Under the RESERVATIONS link you will see specific rules and information for each site. Please read when setting up your reservation!
WHERE SHOULD I STAY?
Each site location close to the meeting place given on the RESERVATION page. We suggest staying nearby. Llano, and Burnet are two good choices to start with for most of our locations.
CAN I BRING MY DOG?
It depends on the site we are visiting. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org in advance and let us know if you have a dog you would like to bring. If we are able to allow them to come, they must be kept on leashes at all times.
HOW OLD MUST CHILDREN BE TO ATTEND?
Please watch children, keep from wandering unsupervised and running around dangerous sliding rock! This is a very safe site for children as long as there is no running! Children must stay with their parent at all times. We have had several wander off alone! We enjoy having children on the trips, and feel that ages 5 and up may do well supervised on this trip and really enjoy what they are doing!
WHERE DO WE COLLECT?
We will show you, and be with you on the trip for the entire day. Please stay within collection site boundaries. Remember, we are being given the right to be here by a landowner and need to respect his wishes.
DO WE NEED TO FILL HOLES BEFORE LEAVING?
Yes, Before leaving all holes you may have dug on property must be filled in! Cattle, children, people wandering the property will not see the holes and can suffer accidents. Again we must respect the landownders land.
IS THERE A RELEASE TO SIGN?
A new "Release of Liability" for Baringer Hills Minerals and the landowners will need to be signed at the site per adult upon arrival for 2015.
We suggest reading each side link about the site you are visiting for information about that site.
For most sites, we suggest the following items be brought along. These are not required items, only suggestions!
Don't forget lunch, or a snack, and drinks! Our trips begin at either 9:00am or 10:00 am depending on time of year, for day trips. and end at either 2:00pm or 3:00pm accordingly. If you finish collecting early, we will give you directions back to town. You do not have to leave with the group and may leave the site after letting one of us know at anytime!
IS THERE A COLLECTING LIMIT?
